Valheim Cheat Flag
Inspect & clear the 1.0 achievement lockout  ·  Runs in your browser

Valheim 1.0 permanently marks any character that has ever run devcommands as ineligible for Steam achievements — including retroactively, for saves that used the console during Early Access. This tool reads your character file, tells you whether it’s flagged, and hands back a fixed copy that changes only that one flag (plus the file’s checksum). Skills, inventory, map, and world list are left exactly as they were.

Nothing is uploaded — the file never leaves your computer
  1. Launch Valheim and select the character you want to clean — don’t enter a world.
  2. Click Manage saves, then Move to local. (Skip if it’s already a local character.)
  3. Close Valheim entirely.
  4. Open the folder it was moved to — paste this into the File Explorer address bar (AppData is hidden, so it won’t show by browsing):
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\characters_local
  5. Confirm <your character>.fch is there. You want the .fch file — not the .fch.old next to it (that’s Valheim’s own backup).
  1. Drop that .fch onto the box above (or click to pick it). Everything happens in your browser — the file is never uploaded.
  2. The tool shows the character and whether the cheat flag is set:
    • Flag present → click Download cleaned <name>.fch.
    • Flag absent → the character is already clean; there’s nothing to download.
  3. The cleaned file is your original with one byte changed (the flag) and the file’s checksum recomputed. Skills, inventory, map, and world list are untouched.
  4. If the tool also lists cheated items, those are console-spawned items still in your inventory. They block achievements on their own — drop them in-game once the cleaned character loads (step 3).
  1. Copy the downloaded .fch into characters_local, overwriting the existing file. Keep the same name. (Back up the original somewhere first if you want a safety net.)
  2. Optionally delete the matching .fch.old — not required, but harmless.
  3. Launch Valheim. Don’t move the character back to the cloud yet.
  4. Load the character, enter any world, and open the Achievements tab — you should no longer see the “permanently disabled” message.
  5. If it checks out, return to the menu and Move to cloud to re-enable Steam Cloud sync. The fix survives the round trip (and joining multiplayer servers).

What counts as cheated. Only three things block achievements: the character cheat flag (what this clears), any item in your inventory that was spawned via console, and playing on a world with modifiers the settings screen can’t produce. Command history shown by the tool is cosmetic — it doesn’t affect eligibility.

Older saves. The tool only understands Valheim 1.0 character files. If you get a version error, load the character in Valheim 1.0 once (which upgrades it) and try again.

Checksum. The file ends with a SHA-512 of its contents; the tool recomputes it so the game loads the edited file without complaint.
